How to Create Your SKU for submission
Each barcode is created using two parts:
- Artist ID (based on last name)
- SKU code (product identifier)
They are combined using this format: ARTIST ID ␣-␣ SKU(space, dash, space)
Step 1: Create the Artist ID
The Artist ID is created using the first letter of the artist’s first, middle, and last name, in ALL CAPS.
Example:
Name: John Andrew Smith
Artist ID: JAS
Rules:
- Use one letter from each name (First, Middle, Last)
- Use uppercase letters only
- Do not use spaces or punctuation
- The Artist ID must remain consistent across all submissions
Step 2: Create the SKU Code
The SKU consists of:
- 3 uppercase letters (product or category code)
- 3 digits, starting at 001
Example
SKU: ABC001
Rules:
- Letters must be A–Z
- Numbers must always be 3 digits (001, 002, 003, etc.)
- Do not reuse the same SKU for the same artist
Step 3: Combine the Artist ID and SKU
Join the two parts using space – dash – space: JAS – ABC001
This full value is what gets turned into a SKU.
