DESCRIPTION:Learn to Paint with Stephen Purdy! \nMost of us enjoy the natural landscape\, and sometimes stand in awe of its beauty. \nJoin Stephen as he teaches and shares what he’s learned to help you make a landscape painting you can be proud of! \nThis class is based on the process of painting outdoors\, in which it is essential to develop a strong composition\, designate the appropriate values\, and make the colour sparkle with the life of the scene before your eyes. Outside\, you have a limited time to capture the scene as the light will change. Inside the studio\, this same efficiency will keep your painting fresh. \nThis class is for everyone. Beginner\, Intermediate or Expert. We can all learn from some constructive criticism. The class is structured with demonstrations of each stage of a painting\, followed by individual critiques of each stage of the students’ progress. If you are a little uncertain of your ability\, don’t be\, this class might be a little intense\, but that is because painting is really\, really\, REALLY fun!!! \nPlease Bring: \nYou can bring whatever painting medium you prefer: acrylics\, oil\, or watercolour paints. \n\nPalette for mixing paint on\nPalette knife for mixing the paint\nVariety of brushes: large\, and not so small\nA canvas to paint on (Stephen will be painting on a 11×14″ canvas board)\nColours: 2 blues\, 2 yellows\, 2 reds\, and a big tube of white!\nA photo of a particular scene you would like to paint\nPaper towel\n\nThat’s it! DESCRIPTION:Seal Skin Brooch Workshop! \n\n\n\nJoin local Inuit artisan Denise Bryan and learn the culture and process of making a seal skin brooch! \nEnter into Route 22 Gallery’s festive makerspace for this relaxed social holiday workshop and learn more about Inuit culture while making a beautiful authentic seal fur brooch! \n“The heart of Inuit culture beats with the rhythm of the Arctic\, embracing the land\, the sea\, and the sky.” \n\nLearn how Inuit people have many uses for seal\, such as tools made from bones\, fur for clothing\, and meat for their traditional diet!\n\n  \nMaterials Provided: \n– With a value of $50\, materials are sourced ethically and traditionally from Canada’s far north! \nDate: \n– Sunday\, December 7 \nTime: \n– 1:00 PM – 3:00 PM \nAges: 16+ \nLocation: Route 22 Artist Collective Gallery \nFees: \n– Full cost of workshop\, including materials: $100 +GST | Fees \nMore information & registration HERE! \n  \nAbout the Artist: \nDenise Bryan\, known by her Inuinaqtun name Angasina\, is a proud descendant of the Copper-Inuit from the northern community of Kugluktuk\, Nunavut (formerly Coppermine\, NWT). \nShe now resides in Calgary with her husband\, Ken Bryan\, the love of her life. Angasina was named by her grandfather after her great-grandmother from Alaska\, a name that carries deep familial and cultural significance. Growing up on the land with her family\, Denise spent weekends camping\, hunting\, fishing\, and trapping. These experiences were enriched by the making of traditional clothing such as mukluks\, seal fur mitts\, parkas\, and carry bags. Her family also prepared traditional foods like caribou\, seal\, arctic char\, whitefish\, and occasionally beluga whale. \nDenise’s artistic talents were nurtured by watching her grandfather’s drawings and carvings\, as well as her grandmother’s sewing. Today\, she continues to honor her heritage by creating her own Inuit clothing\, drawings\, and paintings\, keeping her culture alive and vibrant. \n
