Route 22 Artist Collective Ltd. is a registered non-profit volunteer-based organization that aims to elevate the arts in our community and to connect the community with local visual artists and arts & cultural opportunities. After more than 5 years of dedicated volunteer work, we are very proud to operate a successful year-round multidiscipline art gallery in the heart of historic downtown Cochrane, which includes a programming space for arts education, workshops and community cultural needs.
Through our gallery and programming operations, and with the support of all levels of government as well as local private supporters, we are proud to have generated over 1.2 million dollars in revenues since 2020 for our local economy. We have connected over 20 000 people to local arts and culture and provided entrepreneurship opportunities to over 100 local artists. We provide stable employment in the arts sector to our operational team and to many local and regional contracted arts and business professionals.
2025 is a big year for us as we announce a major step forward towards long-term sustainability and growth for the local creative economy with the creation of two Route 22 funds in partnership with The Cochrane Foundation:

Campaign FunD
A short term CAPITAL CAMPAIGN FUND for the purchase of a permanent home in the heart of the community – ownership of our leased commercial Main Street property (including 214, 212, and 208, 1st St West)
GOAL: 3 MILLION BY 2028
We have a unique opportunity to own our prime commercial downtown space thanks to private community supporters who negotiated purchase of the property on our behalf in 2024. One of the biggest obstacles to long term sustainability for Route 22 and operation of permanent arts facilities in Cochrane is the high price of commercial leased space. As a non-profit organization, we can leverage fundraising on the community level towards public funding available through the provincial and federal governments to reach our 3 million dollar goal and gain ownership of our future. We will be actively fundraising towards this goal over the next three years.

ENDOWMENT FunD
A long term ENDOWMENT FUND for long-term operational funding.
GOAL: 2 MILLION BY 2030
The intention with this fund is to provide long-term security for Route 22 and it’s physical facility operations into the future. Interest generated by the fund will be directed to Route 22 operational costs annually, while the principle is retained by the Cochrane Foundation to grow the impact it is able to provide via wider community grants and initiatives.
It’s a win/win for Route 22 and the Cochrane and area community!
Funds raised are critical to ensuring that we have the capacity to sustain our current operations as well as to grow to meet the needs of our community. Our fundraising efforts on a grassroots, community level are absolutely crucial to the success of our organization and to ensure that Cochrane has a permanent artist-led place for arts and culture in the heart of our community.
One of our long-term goals has always been to secure a permanent expanded space to house a fully functioning ‘Arts Hub’ for Cochrane. While our current 2200 sq ft gallery is a small start, we are actively engaged in dialogue with many stakeholders towards long-term partnerships, collaborations and funding to do more. With the support of our community, we are confident that the goal of having a thriving arts ecosystem and creative economy will be achieved to the benefit of our present and future creative thinkers, makers and community as a whole.
