I am a lover of the natural world and this informs all that I do in life and art. Always drawn to the places where things connect, I find meaning in exploring the edges, relationships and threads that connect our world. Making art is how I find meaning in the madness and magic of the world – questioning, appreciating and always seeking and celebrating the beauty in it.
Lara Kruger is a rural Cochrane-based artist and public art professional whose practice is driven by a fascination with connection between
people, environments, and ideas. With foundational studies at Calgary’s ACAD and a BFA in sculpture and environmental studies from Mount Allison University (New Brunswick) her roots in both art and science as well as classical and contemporary traditions have grounded Lara’s works across an array of materials including metal, clay, wood, paint and light. Her practice blends surrealism and realism, informed by early influence & mentorship from her uncle Mac Mackenzie (sculptor of Cochrane’s Men of Vision), the rural agricultural community and traditional western heritage as well as contemporary practice with years of hands-on public art installation and arts leadership across Canada.
Lara’s work invites curiosity, challenges perception, and encourages interaction always anchored in her reverence for the land and her passion for connecting the cultural community. As Founder and Executive Director of the Route 22 Artist Collective, Lara continues to weave art into the everyday experiences of her community. She recently completed two monumental public art installations for the Town of Cochrane, installed at the Civic Plaza in 2025 and has participated in group and solo exhibitions in Alberta and New Brunswick. Her work is held in private collections across Canada.
