Stuart Thomas

I strive to capture the beauty of the world as I see it, translating unique perspectives into compelling visual stories. Committed to continuous growth, I proudly embrace my role as a lifelong “STU”dent of the “ART’s”a passion even reflected in my name. Through my photography, I aim to take viewers on a journey, evoking a sense of wonder and feeling with every photograph.

Stuart has always been drawn to the arts – whether drawing, painting, or music, he loved learning and practicing. After buying his first DSLR in 2006, he was hooked on photography. As a self-taught photographer, Stuart explored and practicing different styles of photography, finding an early excitement for nature photography.

After relocating from the Greater Toronto Area to Calgary, his dedication for photography only grew. Road trips around Western Canada led to more opportunities for him. Inspired by his passion for exploring, Stuart traveled to over 17 countries, learning about the culture and people. However, the mountains have always called him back. He spent his free time exploring and taking pictures everywhere he went. His photographs have been featured in publications such as Canadian Geographic, and news outlets such as CBC News Calgary, Global News Calgary, The Weather Network, and other media outlets.

Now residing in Cochrane, his photography journey has expanded him to capturing wildlife, the northern lights and milky way. You can usually see his photography at the Calgary Stampede, coffee shops around Cochrane, and now at Route 22 Gallery.

The intersection where art, culture and community converge.
Route 22 Gallery is located on the land of the Treaty 7 people. In the spirit of respect, reciprocity and truth, we honour and acknowledge the Treaty 7 territory and the cultural and oral practices of the Îyâxe Nakoda and Tsuut’ina nations as well as the Blackfoot confederacy: Siksika, Kainai, Piikani. We acknowledge that this territory is home to the Métis Nation of Alberta, (Métis Nation District 4) within the historical Northwest Métis homeland. It is a privilege and and an honour to share these lands as our collective home. Route 22 Artist Collective Gallery is an inclusive organization. We love our community and all are welcome here.
