Painter

Carol Schmick

Believing each piece has its own heartbeat, Carol draws inspiration from landscapes, water, animals, flowers and her intuition.

Carol is a Cochrane artist whose work reflects her deep connection to the natural world, emotional experiences and a lifelong journey of creative exploration. She demonstrates that passion and creativity for art has no age limit. Carol’s creative process often begins with sharing thoughts, poems and reflections onto the canvas, setting a meditative and personal tone. And when called for, will infuse Sound Essences into the ritual. Carol embraces a versatile and intuitive approach to her work, often layering colour, form, collage and texture with acrylics to create expressive art work where her evolving style comes forward naturally.

A life-long learner, Carol continually expands her skills through numerous live workshops and on-line classes. She is excited to be part of the Creative Visionary Program this year. Carol’s first art exhibit was at Canmore Hospital’s ‘Art for the Heart’ in 2023 and was also welcomed into the Route 22 Collective, alongside an exciting and vibrant community of creatives in that same year, marking a meaningful chapter in her artistic journey. Carol’s paintings are held in private collections across Canada.

Carol’s work has been described as eclectic, evoking a range of emotions and memories; it is grounded, yet playful, full of rich colour and surprises that invite viewers to engage deeply. She believes each piece carries its own heartbeat and listens attentively to the messages within her art. Carol’s hope is that people who experience her work, feel as much joy through her art, as she has creating it. And that when viewed, a person will be touched by their very own stories, feelings and reasons for loving it.

The intersection where art, culture and community converge.
Route 22 Gallery is located on the land of the Treaty 7 people. In the spirit of respect, reciprocity and truth, we honour and acknowledge the Treaty 7 territory and the cultural and oral practices of the Îyâxe Nakoda and Tsuut’ina nations as well as the Blackfoot confederacy: Siksika, Kainai, Piikani. We acknowledge that this territory is home to the Métis Nation of Alberta, (Métis Nation District 4) within the historical Northwest Métis homeland. It is a privilege and and an honour to share these lands as our collective home. Route 22 Artist Collective Gallery is an inclusive organization. We love our community and all are welcome here.
