This summer, I’m excited to be joining the Route 22 team as a Gallery Assistant! It’s a role that’s a perfect fit for what I’m studying at Redeemer University in Ancaster, Ontario. I’m currently working toward a Bachelor of Arts with a double major in Art and English Literature, with three years left before I graduate. After university, I hope to build a career in museum curation.
I’ve loved painting for as long as I can remember, and creating art is still one of my favourite ways to learn, connect and communicate. Gouache is my go-to medium, but I’ve recently been enjoying working with acrylic as well. I love painting portraits and still-life, and I find that finding cohesiveness in a pile of mismatched objects is so fun to experiment with and capture.
I’m originally from the East Coast—my family is from Cape Breton, Nova Scotia—but we moved to Cochrane in 2015. Since then, I’ve found an amazing community of friends and family here, and it’s always one of my favourite places to come back to.
Working at Route 22 has already been such a rewarding experience. Every day I learn something new, and I’ve loved getting to know the artists and members, hearing their stories, and learning about their unique techniques and creative processes. I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunity to be part of such an inspiring community.
