Beverley Moorhouse

I’m an intuitive artist working in bold watercolours and inks to weave emotions into every inch of my artwork. My passions are an unwavering commitment to mental health and the belief everyone should be deeply seen. Through my creations, I create a unique talking point, inviting you in to discover what all the mark making might mean. Together, my art and I help those feeling ignored, isolated, dismissed and misunderstood to experience belonging, recognition, find acceptance and feel a sense of importance.

That was the official artist statement! Now for the unofficial bio…

I grew up in the UK and always knew I had a creative side. I was always making things. It was while in high school I began to take art seriously. But like many people experience, my art teacher negated my work. At that point, I packed my creativity away and embarked on a career in business administration. My art teacher had pulled the rug on any idea I had for a creative career.

Later in life I changed career paths and gained a degree in psychotherapy. While working with people in creative ways, I noticed the positive effects of using art with my clients. Creativity doesn’t have to have words and it’s non-confrontational.

In 2019 I began a course in calligraphy. While on that journey, I discovered watercolour paints and my love for art took off again by combining paint and pen. It hasn’t stopped since!

I draw inspiration from life. Life presents me with so many opportunities to tell stories via my art. To date, creating my art has been like writing a book. My art tells the story of my past and present bringing out the emotions that life produces inside me.

I have never been to art school. I hold the belief that everyone can draw, paint, and create things. It is the environment around us that plants negative seeds that we aren’t creative, that our work is not good enough, and that we should get a different career.

However, I invite you to think back to when you were a young child. You picked up a crayon and drew freely and without constraint. You thought your creation was beautiful and indeed it was. I encourage you to step into your child again, to create freely and be yourself.

My art comes from my heart. I create to encourage everyone to be creative. I work under the banner of “Doodle and Flourish Art.” A simple doodle can allow you to relax and access the true creative side of yourself. When we are in that unconstrained easy place, life flourishes!
