The Creative Core: Five Principles to Inspire Art, Life, and Growth.

This innovative workshop series is a unique and engaging mini-series designed to bridge artistic expression with personal and professional development. The lunch and learn format is designed to allow accessible, casual and intentional space for mindfulness and creative growth in bite-size pieces, in the flow of the working day.

Participants will be introduced to five timeless principles through reflective talks and hands-on artist demos and projects. Bring your lunch and explore new ways of thinking in the creative zone of the Route 22 Makerspace located within the Route 22 Gallery in the heart of Downtown Cochrane. Light refreshments (coffee/tea/water)provided.

Led by Michael Emery, an experienced stone sculptor and mindfulness practitioner, the series aims to inspire creativity, practice mindfulness, and establish an artistic connection to personal growth within community.

Series Goals:

• Provide participants with practical tools to explore creativity and personal growth.

• Create a welcoming environment where art & creativity fosters connection and self-expression.

• Showcase diverse artistic mediums with local artists while encouraging curiosity and self exploration through hands-on examples and audience participation

Number of Sessions: Five sessions, offered biweekly, for a total of 10 weeks.

Session Length: Approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes, scheduled during lunchtime (12:00– 1:15 PM).

• Each session will begin with a brief 10 minute talk introducing a principle of The Creative Core, followed by an interactive artist demo and activity to participate in or observe.

• First Session: Soapstone Carving

• Principle: Mindset

• Mini Talk: Focusing on developing a growth-oriented mindset. Participants will learn to embrace challenges, trust the process, and discover the potential within raw materials.

• Hands-On Activity: Each participant will carve a small soapstone sculpture. This session emphasizes patience, adaptability, and the joy of creation.

Future Sessions: The details of the remaining four sessions will be announced as we move through the series, maintaining flexibility to collaborate with guest artists. Each session will introduce a new art medium aligned with a different principle of The Creative Core.

About Michael Emery:

Michael is an artist, educator, and mindfulness practitioner whose work reflects the complexities of his own evolving journey—a search for meaning, resilience, and creativity in a time of transformation. With years of experience as a stone sculptor and a growing weaver, Michael created The Creative Core to inspire others to explore their own shades of grey, finding strength and insight in the artistic process. Michael’s art is deeply informed by his life experiences, including navigating grief, ADHD, and a shifting relationship with societal norms. For Michael, creativity is not about answers but about inquiry —a space to reflect, adapt, and grow. Through The Creative Core, he shares his own process, inviting participants to approach their creative journeys with curiosity and openness, embracing both the challenges and the beauty of uncertainty in a world that often values productivity over presence.
