Course Description: Collage is an accessible art form for beginners up to the professional. Most of the materials used to create collages can be found in your studio and or around your home. Join Instructor Eleanor Boyden as she guides you through the basics to get started with this expressive art form!
What Students will Learn:
- What type of bases work best for their project ideas.
- Preparing the base for collaged material.
- Selecting the best type of collage material and adhesives for longevity.
- Planning a collage and method of collage to use.
- How to construct a basic collage using recycled and found materials.
Student Supplies:
- Notebook and pen (optional)
- Water bottle (optional)
- A Support Base: a variety of surfaces from 8 x 10 to 16 x 20 canvas board, cradle panel, heavy papers, stretched canvas, cardboard. Reuse old, discarded paintings from your studio / home.
- Adhesives: acrylic gel medium (matte/gloss), glue sticks, white glue, mode podge, molding paste.
- Scissors: varying sizes
- Apron (or clothes suitable for creating in)
- Paper towel
- X-Acto knife with blades and self-healing cutting board (Found in Dollars stores about 5 bucks)
- Ruler
- Cheap Brushes for glueing
- Brown Paper ie: paper shopping bag, wrapping paper
- Collage Material: magazines, newspapers, fabric scraps, ribbons, junk mail, old cards, tissue paper, books, comic books.
- Old credit or gift card (optional) but a good idea
- NO GLITTER PLEASE
Instructor Bio: Eleanor P. Boyden (she/her), a Canadian artist born in Alberta, where the wide-open prairie skies ignited her artistic energy, has continued a visual arts practice for over 40 years. As she works across numerous mediums including paint, print, fibre, photography, and sculpture, Eleanor develops expressive meditative responses to the world and our humanity found within.
Currently residing in Calgary, AB, Eleanor completed her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting with Distinction from AUArts (formerly ACAD) in 2017. The value of Eleanor’s research and contribution of her artwork has been recognised through multiple awards and residencies.
