Description: Discover your inner artist in this workshop on the basics of mono printing with a gel plate. Create personal one-of-a-kind prints with a variety of techniques, tools, and materials. This full-day workshop will introduce you to mono printing as you experiment with several different methods and learn to have fun, enjoy the process and embrace happy accidents. We will work with a limited palette and build a limited run of richly coloured abstract printed paintings. Jump in and learn something new!

What Students will Learn: 

• Select the best paint and tools to use a gel plate properly.
• Caring for your gel plate.
• Create multi-layered monoprints with precise techniques and processes.
• Work with colour harmony.
• Create your own stencils and masks.
• Create image transfers.

Student Supplies:

• All supplies included to complete project.
• Optional: Any stamps, stencils or mark making tools you already own
• Optional: Found materials – fresh leaves, textured wallpaper, string, mesh, corrugated cardboard, or anything fairly flat and textured that will give your surface some interest for mono printing
• Optional: Headphones and your favourite playlist
• Notebook and pen
• Water bottle, lunch and a snack

Instructor Bio: Gloria Gelo is a contemporary abstract artist and instructor working in mixed media. Originally from the Midwest, Gloria has always been drawn to the seasonal shift of nature and organic shapes. With an emphasis on dried leaves, macro flora and the muted variations of water and coastline, she explores the space between shape and form, creating uniquely understated, minimal and modern works of art. Gloria studied fine art in Ohio and currently works out of her studio in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.
