Description: Let your inner artist shine! Look at the world through artist eyes. Explore different media and techniques. Practice your live drawing skills. Work toward a variety of finished projects including artist trading cards, ink prints, contour sketches, moody chair acrylic paintings, and animated junk drawings.
What Students will Learn:
• How to use line, shape, space and color effectively
• Tips for a satisfying composition
• Drawing skills for still life and figures.
• Printmaking basics
• How to create mood
• Techniques for painting with acrylics
Student Supplies :
• Blank page sketchbook 5 x 7 or larger
• HB pencils and clean white eraser
• Water bottle and snack
Instructor Bio :
Julie Johnston has been an artist for as long as she can remember. One of her earliest memories was the frustration of having paint run down a painting propped up on an easel—a problem she has now solved! Julie paints professionally as a member of Route 22 Collective, the Leighton Centre and the Calgary Artists’ Society. She is inspired by nature and regularly paints with watercolors, oil, acrylic and gouache. An experienced teacher, Julie has also worked extensively with youth as a classroom teacher during her 30 years with the Calgary Board of Education. Julie loves to engage with emerging young artists and encourage them on their creative journey.
