Bill Anthony is an innovative and creative artist, who discovered his passion for stained glass in 1992. His insatiable desire for knowledge led him to study under three successful Winnipeg-stained glass artists. Unique Stained Glass Works was created in 1994 and taking an early retirement from a teaching career spanning 28 years, in 1997 Bill pursued his stained glass artistry full-time.
A move to Didsbury, Alberta in 2003, Bill and his wife Merrilee opened a storefront Studio. Bill not only creates custom and commissioned pieces but also repairs and restores cherished family heirlooms. He teaches classes in the art form and conducts many workshops, as well.
Bill works in 3 techniques of stained glass, lead came, foil and solder and glass mosaic. He has developed his own soldering techniques which give his pieces a 3-dimensional look. “I am always looking for an approach to expanding the way a person views my art.”
Distancing himself from the average stained glass artist, Bill has experimented with all forms of glass and materials. He was astonished to see how light passes through certain circuit boards and capitalized on the 3-D effect it produced. A new art form was created when Bill combined computer boards and stained glass, using the foil and solder method. Winnipeg’s television and press became aware of Bill’s art, leading to national television exposure where Bill and this art form were showcased.
While working with his first love, traditional stained glass – with a flair for the unusual, he works with clients to create their vision in stained glass.
His work can be found in homes and offices all over North America, and in England, Germany, Japan, Sweden and Australia.
