Dermot O’Kane

Photographer

My name is Dermot, I’m a landscape photographer based in Alberta, Canada. If you’re looking for high quality fine art photography to decorate your home or office then I would be delighted to hear from you. I specialize in producing large format, gallery quality artwork and have sold many limited edition prints to happy collectors from around the world. I only use the finest quality printing and mounting materials available in the world today, including ChromaLuxe metal prints and acrylic facemounts. I also produce matted and signed open edition prints.

I am originally from Ireland, where I earned my Bachelor’s Degree in Philosophy and Classical Civilization, but I’ve been living in Canada since 2005. I have travelled and photographed all over this beautiful country (and many other places worldwide) and now live with my wife and children near the Rocky Mountains of Alberta.

I have used a variety of camera systems over the years including film and digital.  In the past, much of my work was created using medium and large format panoramic cameras (Hasselblad Xpan, Linhof Technorama 617) and Fuji Velvia transparency film. I’m now using a fully digital workflow, currently the Sony Alpha mirrorless system.

I have been fortunate to receive many awards and honours throughout my photographic journey. Some awards of note include a National Accreditation in Fine Art from the Professional Photographers of Canada, a Kodak Gallery Award for photographic excellence, and the title of Master Photographer in Fine Art from Master Photographers International.

My goal with my photography is to create exciting images that evoke a feeling or emotion in the viewer. I’m not merely trying to make a simple record of a place. The image must go deeper than that to convey the essence of the scene. And ultimately it must look good when hung up on the wall!
