Ele Davis

Painter

Ele Davis is a Cochrane, Alberta artist mostly working in oils, although she loves to play in acrylics and watercolour too.

Her intrigue with creating an emotional connection between the subject and viewer through portraiture and figurative painting dominates her current work.

Ele has a degree in Fine Art and another in Education from the University of Calgary and has taught high school art for most of her teaching career. She has studied in Florence, Italy at the Angel Academy of Art, and has also spent time studying painting in France.cademy of Art, and has also spent time studying painting in France.

Recently, Ele experienced two months in Berlin, the contemporary art capital of the world, on an artist’s residency furthering her understanding of current directions in fine art.

She admires the work of Jenny Seville for her amazing fusion of colour and loose paint quality giving life to the skin of her figures. Ele is drawn repeatedly to the gestural energy of Cy Twombly’s abstract mark making. Ele believes that the unique mark making of every artist creates their own language to express their personal vision and she is constantly realizing her own language.

Ele has also enjoyed a successful career painting many large scale murals throughout Alberta and Nunavut.
