Holly Burghardt is a professional landscape artist from Calgary, AB. She uses a variety of palette knives and thick, heavy body acrylic paint to create pieces that are full of texture, depth, dimension, colour and life.
Holly finds unending inspiration all around – from the mountains to the prairies, lakes and forests, flowers and grasslands. She loves nature and being outside where she is constantly taking pictures of things or scenes she’d like to paint.
Holly gravitated to palette knife painting because she loves how it goes onto the canvas, layer upon layer until the painting is complete. The final result is a piece of art that one wants to reach out and touch because of the numbers layers and knife strokes.
A nurse by education, Holly picked up a palette knife almost 20 years ago when she wanted to stay home with her young children. A self-taught artist, she has taken lessons and workshops from established Canadian painters. Her work can be viewed at galleries in Edmonton, Canmore, Invermere and Cochrane as well in many private and public collections around the world.
