Janet Armstrong

My love for nature and painting started at an early age and continued through the school years. I attended Alberta College of Art in Calgary and then worked for 7 years with Gulf Oil as a Graphic Artist. Subsequently, I relocated to Ontario, where I studied painting and sculpture at the Burlington Art Centre. Eventually, I moved back to Calgary and completed a couple of month-long  painting residencies  at The Banff Centre.

I work in oil, acrylics, and watercolours in my studio or out on location, plein-air painting. I have enjoyed many art experiences throughout this career – murals, event painting, teaching art classes, and establishing and managing a busy commercial art business in Cochrane, Alberta.  Just Imajan Art Gallery & Studio was wonderful to create and grow with.

I closed the gallery in 2018 to return to being a full-time artist. I enjoy traveling to wonderful destinations for plein-air painting and then returning with those paintings to create even larger works once back home. The creativity continues, and I enjoy sharing my passion.
