Karen Pedersen

Painter

I have always been interested in art. After retirement I turned to a serious pursuit of painting.  My passion for painting spans a wide range of subjects from landscapes to animals, florals to abstracts.

I paint both plein air and in studio. I’m largely self-taught but have studied with several Canadian and America landscape artists.

I enjoy working with oils for the immediacy of an ‘alla prima’ technique when painting. As well I like to interpret the landscape around me using my imagination along with interpreting the scene in front of me when creating a piece.

When working in acrylics and other water media I enjoy building the painting by applying multiple glazes creating a depth to the surface. Whatever the medium, I strive to use movement, form, and light to drawing the viewer in.

Route 22 Gallery is located on the land of the Treaty 7 people. In the spirit of respect, reciprocity and truth, we honour and acknowledge the Treaty 7 territory and the cultural and oral practices of the Îyâxe Nakoda and Tsuut’ina nations as well as the Blackfoot confederacy: Siksika, Kainai, Piikani. We acknowledge that this territory is home to the Métis Nation of Alberta, (Métis Nation District 4) within the historical Northwest Métis homeland. It is a privilege and and an honour to share these lands as our collective home.

Route 22 is an inclusive organization. We love our gallery – all are welcome here.
