Malann Klassen

Malann Klassen

Artist residing on Treaty 7 territory.

I am a child of the ’70s, a painter, illustrator, sculptor, media artist, installation, mixed media artist and a drawing major and ceramic minor at Alberta University of the Arts in Calgary, Alberta.

I am working in these media because exploration is a big part of my work, conceptually and figuratively. Investigating different materials to see how they interact with the content and the environment. Having moved a lot, home, attachment, environment, and belonging are all significant themes. If I can get to doing my own work these days, between school, public art, momma to three girls, and Gallery Director here at Route 22.

Route 22 Gallery is located on the land of the Treaty 7 people. In the spirit of respect, reciprocity and truth, we honour and acknowledge the Treaty 7 territory and the cultural and oral practices of the Îyâxe Nakoda and Tsuut’ina nations as well as the Blackfoot confederacy: Siksika, Kainai, Piikani. We acknowledge that this territory is home to the Métis Nation of Alberta, (Métis Nation District 4) within the historical Northwest Métis homeland. It is a privilege and and an honour to share these lands as our collective home.

Route 22 is an inclusive organization. We love our gallery – all are welcome here.
