Course Description: Explore the possibilities of Linocut printmaking to create expressive patterns on textiles. In this fun, fast paced class students will learn basic linocut skills, pattern development and custom colour mixing. Students will cut blocks, lay out their design motifs and hand print their own set of Flour Sack Tea Towels to take home. Excellent for beginner and intermediate linocut students. All supplies included.

What Students will Learn:

·      Basic carving techniques on Softcut linoleum.

·      Different types of ink suitable for printing on fabric.

·      Laying out pattern designs.

·      Finishing steps for to keep designs vibrant on fabric.

Student Supplies:

·      Notebook and pen

·      Water bottle

·      Simple ideas or sketches if helpful (we will have class time to develop ideas)

·      Bring reading glasses if you require them for finer work.

·      Students are encouraged to bring their own linocut tools and acrylic painting supplies if they already own them but there is no requirement to buy any tools for this class.

Instructor Bio: Michelle Wiebe is a Cochrane, Alberta based artist focused primarily on painting, printmaking, and letterpress. Her work is characterized by simple subject matter rendered with bold colour and line work. Michelle is also a passionate instructor with a deep love for teaching, she makes it her goal that students leave her class with quality work and the confidence to continue building their new skills.
